We are finally up and running!
This Coffee and Comics online shop journey started back in JUNE. There have been roadblocks at every step and it’s been quite disheartening at moments.
From being able to log-on the Colorado state website to register, to delays with a firm once my documents had been filed. This entire ordeal has been quite a time-suck, to give you a bit of perspective, I was hoping to launch my shop in JULY.
Though finally, we have everything we need to move forward. The business has been registered, tax documents figured out, bank account opened, wholesaler relationship established and a couple other smaller things. It’s refreshing to get things started but now the real work begins! With delivery of my first apparel order this week, I can now start screen printing and getting some of this apparel on the shop.
Bookmarks
While all of the document filing and tax work was going on I was creating custom bookmarks made from comics. I wanted to have more than just stickers and apparel on the online shop but I also needed a creative outlet. Started with $1 comics I got at Mile High Comics awhile back and really liked how they came out. So the next step was, should I try it with a new comic that has just been released? Then Absolute Batman dropped and oh was it glorious! As I was reading it I started to picture multiple of the panels as different layouts for a bookmark.
About halfway through the book, a page fell out. As soon as that happened I made the decision to try and buy another copy for myself and repurpose the ripped one as bookmarks. The only problem was that it was sold out at all 3 of my local comic shops. I was out of luck. So I put a request out on Threads and my new friends Gotham City Limit located in Jacksonville, Florida were able to help me out!

Screen-Printing
My first apparel order has arrived and it is now time to screen print them! It’s been YEARS since I first started my design career at a small screen printing shop in Milwaukee. But I am more than confident that with a bit of practice I can get my screen printing skills back. I have done a few test runs that my wife and I wear around the house, as well as one hoodie that has been shipped out to my buddy in Oregon. Already had a setback with the garage being too cold for the ink, I had to build a platform to place the screen printing machine on in the basement.
I’m hoping to get apparel up and on the site ready for purchase by next Monday to try and capitalize on holiday shopping. I will be posting updates as well as behind-the-scenes on my Threads account, be sure to follow.
Email subscribers will get first notice about apparel and new product drops!
